Centre for Community-Led Housing Alternatives

This new centre will house a database of Canadian and international cooperatives, co-housing, CLT, and other intentional community-led housing models, promote national and international research dialogues and connections, identify national and international exemplars, and examine Canadian and international promising practices of community-led housing through policy, grey literature, case studies, semi-structured interviews and focus groups with practitioners.

This project will engage with Indigenous-led, Black-led, and other community housing initiatives led by equity-deserving communities, and produce this website and a series of public and community-facing reports and guidebooks on community-led housing alternatives.

The Centre will collaborate with the other research clusters on a series of collaborative projects (including, for example, Project 3A examining new community-led housing alternatives for congregate and independent living for persons with disabilities and other needs, and Projects 4A and 4B that aim to track the sale or devolution of public land and housing stock from local government to NGO providers and to identify vacant public and privately-owned land for alternative land tenure and land rematriation, study organizational supports needed for land transfer, and promote knowledge exchange with community-led housing groups).
